Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure lasting about 15 minutes. During surgery, your clouded natural lens is replaced with a clear, artificial IOL. Before the operation, anesthetic eye drops and a mild sedative will be administered. The surgeon makes a small incision to break up the cataract using ultrasound technology. Then, the predetermined IOL is inserted.
Most patients can go home within an hour after the procedure. You’ll rest briefly in our recovery area, and a driver will take you home. Many notice improved vision within a day or two. Like any surgery, there are risks, which you and your doctor will discuss beforehand. It’s important to avoid strenuous activities for about a week, but you can otherwise resume normal routines.
